The Chinese Zodiac dictates that 2012 is the year of the Dragon! What better time to feature one of my all time favorite designer fabrics, Schumacher's "Chaing Mai Dragon"!

I have been a long time fan of this classic pattern, available in many different color ways. The color combinations and playful pattern work in each design will lend a sense of life and fun to your decor.

1 serving

1 cup milk

2 Tbsp Nutella

Tiny pinch of salt

My New Aidan Gray Chandelier...

I firmly believe that dramatic lighting can transform a space entirely. I have always loved the look of a slightly over-scaled chandelier as the focal point in the dining room. My latest installation is no exception.

This French-inspired chandelier from Aidan Gray (through Harvest), has all the vintage character of an original. The graceful curves of the arms and the intricate leaf details add organic appeal to this unique design.

This chandelier brings the drama and rough-luxe character that we hoped to achieve.

I adore the hint of glitz and glamour that comes from the dangling crystals.

Tying the reflective crystals to each arm with rough, textured burlap creates the perfect juxtaposition of informal and formal style in our dining room that must function as both our everyday breakfast area and formal entertaining space.

Banquette Beauty....

I recently added a banquette bench to one side of my new dining table. I'm loving the varied seating options and decor opportunities that it provides.

I had always had my mind set on this BARREL LEG EXTENSION TABLE FROM OLD LUMBER (through Harvest), but I knew I wanted to contrast its rough textures with softer seating.

I've acheived this with my white linen, slipcovered Parsons chairs and soft gray, velvetty banquette. To break up all the gray, and add yet another layer of texture, I've draped a simple, off-white throw ($10 from ikea - score!) down the center of the banquette and added throw pillows made from french linens and vintage flour sacks, (pillows also available through Harvest). I envision changing the throw and accent pillows through the seasons to give the dining room a fresh new look.

In case you're searching for a fabulous hostess gift this holiday season, I thought I'd tell you about the lovely one that I just received from our dear friends. This gorgeous handmade vase is from Heath Ceramics, a locally-owned workshop here in the Bay Area.

Our guests didn't even know, but I've been a long-time fan of the amazing creations from Heath Ceramics! I was so excited when I opened it, I had to display it right away (hence the leaves and branches instead of something more appealing). Just goes to show you that a marvelously shaped object needs little ornamentation.

Every Heath piece is still made in their original factory in Sausalito, California and crafted in the same manner as it has been for the past 55 years.

Every now and then, our long-time vendors introduce a new piece to their collection that just fits the Harvest look perfectly! One of our favorite vendors, The Uttermost, has recently introduced this darling, distressed, two-toned hall tree!

It is made of honey stained, solid mango wood with hand painted, distressed charcoal gray accents. The aged brass coat hooks and antiqued mirror add function, while keeping with the vintage appeal. I recently received my beautiful new Kayhan chair from Harvest, and I la-la-love it!

You may not know this, but most of our upholstery can be manufactured with C.O.M. (Customer's Own Material)! Which means I was able to select the exact designer fabric that worked best in my new living room, and send it into our manufacturer so they could apply to one of my favorite chairs!

For this corner of our living room, I selected a light gray and white pinstripe from Robert Allen, called "Empire Stripe Ash".

I opted for the double welt, rather than the standard nailhead trim. Not that I don't love the nailhead trim, it's just that several other pieces in the room are accented with nailhead, and I didn't want to overdo it. The double welting came out flawless and helps to accentuate the pinstripe pattern positioned on the bias.

The chair turned out better than I ever expected; the details are so well-executed and the shape is superb! A big thank you to the designers of our Transitions Collection!

this is me photographing my "flocked" sweatpants and shirt sleeves. The ultimate holiday workshop accessory! The snow was "flocking" everywhere! Let's just say we had a little too much fun with the "flock" pun while decorating.

Here's Karsten, my head elf (and super-handy slave), hanging the millionth mirror/stocking holder/wreath/hook. Note essential tools for late night handywork: measuring tape and giant coffee.
